My solo show at Sequential Art Gallery opened in August and displayed the original pages for the comic I wrote and drew for the Couscous Collective’s anthology “Ocean”. Only a month later that show was  followed up by a show dedicated to the posters developed for Cody Rishell and Stuart Bosel’s fantastic Olympian’s Festival.  The poster I designed this year was for “Orbiting Jupiter”- the printed copies for sale were printed on a heavy paper and perforated so that they could be torn apart into postcards.

The Couscous Collective’s anthology “Ocean” debuted at A.P.E. and the next anthology “Beards” has been completed and will be available for sale after debuting at Stumptown Comics Fest at the end of April. I am especially pleased with my story for Ocean- a dark take on The Little Mermaid titled “Siren”. When we first started our anthologies we knew that one day we’d sell enough copies we’d be able to start paying for the next anthology from the profits rather than out of pocket but we never imagined it would happen so fast! We sold our last copy of “Forest” at Image Expo and already our stock of “Space” is looking a bit sparse. “Beards” is promising to be nearly twice the length of our last book and will be the last anthology we print in B&W- from now all our anthologies will include at least a few full color comics!

Last April started  honing my watercolor painting and drawing skills initially by painting postcard sized images of my food. Food comes in so many colors and textures that it seemed like an obvious choice but I certainly didn’t expect the overwhelming response I got from everyone around me insisting that I “keep making these!” I started posting my images to my Tumblr “Filling Content” and am currently working on a set of recipe cards in the same style.

The biggest achievement is of course the edition of slipcases I made for Shaenon K. Garrity’s kickstarter campaign. As an added bonus to anyone who pledged the highest level to fund the reprinting of her epic “Narbonic” the backers were to receive a hand bound slipcase designed just for this project. The orders flooded in and by the end of the campaign there was a total edition of 50 waiting to be created. I’d done this sort of thing in teams before but this was by far the largest and most complicated project I’ve yet to complete on my own. I took measurements, cut and glued board, silkscreened bookcloth covers and paper linings and custom die cut my way to a slipcase that is the single project I am most proud of.

There is of course always so much going on that presumably by the next time I find a moment to provide an update there’ll be even more to cover but a few of my priorities over the next couple months include preparing for the launch of Star St. Germain’s next line of jewelry, bundled set of recipe cards and the slipcase for Shaenon’s next Kickstarter funded book “Skin Horse Volume III”.

I am especially proud as the story I did is a full 12 pages long – a full 3 times longer than any comic I’ve ever done before this. Can’t. Wait.

I’ve started working on setting up an etsy store where I’ll be able to sell my books and prints and cards.  Much of my work is already available through the couscous collective store but the etsy store will include work that isn’t comics related.  Lots of other projects in the works – hopefully ready to share soon!

Wow, is it Thursday already? This last week just flew by.  Rodolfo was one of the fantastic people who stopped by my booth at APE and agreed to let me draw him.  He was super nice, and I just can’t say how grateful I am to everyone who’s been helping me do this project.

Just added another 25 image to the site.  I’m really pleased with how this one came out. It’s been a while since I updated the site with anything else – as much as I enjoy my 25 Project I also really like working on a variety of things. Hopefully I’ll get the time to finish something this weekend.

Matt mentioned to me that he found it interesting that my 25 project defines people by their job at an age when almost no one defines themselves by their job.  It’s totally true, though I admit I hadn’t thought of it that way until he mentioned it.  At the time I started this project I had just been laid off from my dream job. Work was the only part of my life that wasn’t going phenomenally well but being unemployed or in a job you loath can completely consume you no matter how well everything else is going. Whether my project was born of defining myself by my job or from attempting to prove to myself that it didn’t I can’t really say.  It has however turned into something wonderful. Talking to people, hearing the stories they have about their lives at an age when everything was constantly shifting for them has been fascinating.
